The 'Taichung City' label on this map is quite a bit northeast of where the city actually is. It's just that Taichung is so dense, that was the best place they could put the label without interferring with the other labels and roads. I started this ride from somewhere near the green dot in Taichung's Central District, heading north around Fongyuan, then climbing up and down and winding across several mountain ranges along highways 3 and 8, the cross-island highway. I was accompanied by a friend (who took the picture of me on my motorcycle at the Pi Lu Chi sign); we ended up going quite a ways past Biluxi before turning back. It was an exhausting, but amazing and unforgettable, ride.
