Mei-O bargaining with a shopping bag salesman in the Pengjiayan antique market.
Mei-O and Pei in front of the Beijing railway station. We went there to buy our train tickets to Chengde.
Someone told us to be sure to see the flag raising ceremony that took place on Tiananmen Square at sunrise, so early one morning around 6:00, Mei-O and I went there to watch it. The viewing area was so packed with people we couldn't get close enough to get a good look, but at least we did see the flag going up to live military band music. This was taken shortly after the ceremony and after the crowd dispersed.

And so was this. This picture gives a better idea of the early morning hour!
In front of Qianmen, one of the many gates to Old Beijing.
Mei-O, Kuan, and Pei in Tianhecheng, one of the restaurants we liked best. We visited it several times while in Beijing.
On the train to Chengde. It was about a four hour ride, and I couldn't take my eyes off the scenery passing by: mountainous regions, small rural farming communites with people working the land by hand, numerous factories, etc., including a glimpse of the Great Wall rolling though the mountains.
On the train, seats face each other. This is the couple that sat across from us. Mei-O struck up a friendly conversation with them.
